若菩提子为数珠者，或用掐念，或但手持，数诵一遍，其福无量。[22]

橄榄是一种常绿乔木，果实长圆而两头尖，因其味苦涩而甘，故有谏果回甘之称。橄榄核坚硬如石，是制造佛珠的极佳材料。
木槵子，亦称作无患子，是一种生长在高山上的乔木，枝叶如椿树，其叶对生，初夏之季开黄色小花，其蒴膨大，裂而为三。结实大如弹丸，坚黑如漆珠。因在《木槵子经》中佛陀曾教导波流离王贯穿木槵子作念珠，遂使得后世的佛教徒均喜用木槵子来制造佛珠，意喻秉承佛陀教诲，无有忘失。
椰，或作枒，是一种生长在热带地区的常绿乔木。果实叫椰子，可用来制造佛珠。据清代袁枚《随园诗话》中说：近来习尚，丈夫多臂缠金镯，手弄椰珠。赵棻在《滤月轩文集》中亦有相同的记载：乾隆年间，户部侍郎赵秉冲，精选一串椰子数珠，珍比千狐之腋。由此可知用椰壳(蒂)来制造佛珠在清初已很普遍，有数百年的历史了。

(五)其它种类
这一项的涵盖面非常广泛。可以说，除了上述的珍宝类、菩提类、宝玉石类、果实(核)类、竹木类之外，皆应属于此项。牛角、牛骨、犀角、象牙等由于律制所限，一向被汉传佛教所排斥，却深受藏传佛教的喜爱，藏传佛教甚至还有用人头骨来制造佛珠的，佩带或持用这些佛珠，也就更能使人了知生死的本来。同时，还会使人感受到一些神秘的宗教气氛。
除此之外，还有用陶瓷、紫砂、雕漆等质料做成的佛珠，这些形态各异的佛珠，也同样会带给人们无尽的遐思。
五、加功用行佛珠的持用方法

汝等善听，我今演说受持数珠校量功德获益差别。若有诵念诸陀罗尼及佛名者，为欲自利及护他人，速求诸法得成验者，其数珠法应有如是，须当受持：若用铁为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福五倍；若用赤铜为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福十倍；若用真珠、珊瑚等为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福百倍；若用木槵子为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福千倍，若求往生诸佛净土及天宫者，应受此珠；若用莲子为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福万倍；若用因陀罗佉叉为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福百万倍；若用乌卢陀罗佉叉为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福千万倍；若用水精为数珠者，诵掐一遍得福万万倍；若用菩提子为数珠者，或用掐念，或但手持，数诵一遍其福无量，不可算数，难可校量。[24]
此外，在《摄真实经建立道场发愿品》卷下、《守护经》、《瑜伽念珠经》中，均以菩提子珠的功德最为殊胜。那么人们不禁要问：为什么菩提子珠具有如此大的功德呢？在《曼殊室利咒藏校量数珠功德经》里边，文殊菩萨为大众讲述了佛陀往昔因地当中的一段故事，以释群疑：
以何因缘我今偏赞用菩提子获益最胜？曼殊室利菩萨言：乃往过去有佛出世，在此树下成等正觉。时一外道，邪见坏心，毁谤三宝。彼有一男，忽被非人之所打杀。外道念言：我今邪见，未审诸佛有何神力。如来今既在此树下成等正觉，若其实圣，树应有感。即将亡子卧菩提树下，作如是言：佛树若圣，我子应苏。以经七日，诵念佛名，子乃重苏。外道欢喜赞言：诸佛有大神力我未曾见，佛成道树现此希奇甚大威德，难可思议。时诸外道闻此事已，舍邪归正，发大菩提心，信佛神力不可思议。以此因缘，世人皆号为延命树。其菩提树遂有二名：一名菩提树，二名延命树。[25]

前面讲过，佛珠可分为三个种类，即持珠、佩珠、挂珠，而一般的念佛者，大多选用持珠。持珠的姿势，亦可分为二种，单手持珠与双手持。单手持珠，大多用于站立、经行的时候；而双手持珠则是打坐时经常采用的姿势。其方法是将佛珠置于两手之间，呈交叉状，把母珠放在一侧，掐捻一周，回至原处即可。其实，根据《佛像图鉴》一***载，历来大德高僧手持佛珠的姿势皆无定法，左手、右手、单手、双手、提高、垂下、平胸、齐膝，各种动作都有，但求其方便而已，所以我们也就不必强求特定的持珠方法了。
