Buddhist Stories: Buddhist scriptures and Folk Story: King Ganyi Shitou

King Qianyi Shitou

Once upon a time there was a king named Qianyi. He was loyal, smart and capable, and a passionate person. He was also very concerned about the sufferings of the people and often tried his best to help them solve their difficulties. Therefore, when the people of thousands of miles of radius heard about it, they came from all directions to surrender to him. However, his good deeds and behavior, especially his support from many people, made some people extremely angry.

There was a Brahmin who practiced Taoism in the neighboring country. He was vicious by nature and narrow-minded. Out of jealousy of King Qianyi, he tried every means to kill him.

One day, he came to the palace where King Qianyi lived and said to the king: Your Majesty!Your kindness is everywhere and everyone knows it;All knowledgeable people praise your great virtues. Can you satisfy my wish? When the Brahmin saw the king agreeing happily, he smiled cunningly, and then said: Your Majesty advocates charity and always responds to all requests. Now I have something to ask for.I want to hold a sacrifice, and everything is ready, only one head is missing.I hope to get the king's head to realize my wish.

The king asked strangely: Is there anything special about my head? Is it necessary to have it in order to complete the sacrifice? You know, I can't live without a head.I have a lot of treasures, so let's do it!I will give you whatever treasure you want, and I will give you as much as you want. Is it OK?

The Brahmin shook his head and said: I don’t need anything, I just need the head of the king.King! You have promised just now that to satisfy my wish, you should be trustworthy and keep your promises.

The king thought for a while and said: OK!Please wait a few days. The king quickly ordered to summon craftsmen to take out the seven treasures of pearls, corals and other treasures in the warehouse, and made hundreds of heads that were exactly the same as his head. He also called Brahmins and said: These heads are exactly the same as mine, take them away!

The Brahmin still shook his head and said, "My king, I am here to find you, not because I am short of money."I cannot accept such a valuable gift from you, no matter what. I just ask you to keep your promise and hand your head to me, and I don’t want anything else.

The king never refused other people's requests, and never expected the true purpose of the Brahmin, so he decided to meet the other party's request. So he walked outside the hall without hesitation, wrapped his hair around the tree, and said: OK!I will give you my head.

Seeing that the time had come, the Brahmin pulled out his waist knife and walked quickly towards the big tree.

All these things were seen by the tree god, and he hated this shameless Brahmin in his heart.Just as the Brahmin raised his sword and was about to approach the king, the tree god suddenly thrust the Brahmin on the cheek with his hand, causing him to stagger and retreat.

The Brahmin was dizzy and even the knife fell to the ground. No matter how he tried, he could not get close to the big tree. The Brahmin knew something was wrong, so he didn't even bother to take the knife and ran away in a hurry.

The king was protected by the tree god and returned to the palace safely.

When people across the country heard about this, they all increased their bids with their hands and were very grateful.
