The Cause and Effect Cause of King Liuli Massacre of the Shaka tribe

Once upon a time when Sakyamuni Buddha was in the Kingdom of Sarvas, Ruri, the second son of King Bosnay, led troops to dismiss his father at the age of twenty, and killed his brother Prince Geudo, and proclaimed himself king.

A bad minister named Jeri told King Liuli, "King, as a prince, you went to study in Kapilava and were insulted by the Shakyamuni people.At that time, the king swore: 'If you become king, you will avenge you!'Now we are strong and we are at the right time to take revenge."So, encouraged by the evil ministers, King Liuli led his troops to attack the Kingdom of Kapila.

After hearing the news, the Buddha knew that this was the ripeness of the common karma of the people of Kapilava, but for the sake of the people of the motherland, he still wanted to do his best.So the Buddha came alone to wait on the road that King Liuli's army must pass, and deliberately sat quietly under a dead tree by the roadside.King Liuli saw the Buddha from afar. Although he was reluctant in his heart, he still forced himself to get off the car and bow to the Buddha.King Liuli asked, “Buddha!Not far ahead, there are big trees with lush branches and leaves that can cover the sun. Why do you choose to meditate under this dead tree?"The Buddha replied: "You are right, but the shade of relatives is even better than the shade of the rest."King Liuli heard the Buddha's implicit sound and was deeply moved. He thought to himself: "In the past, when countries competed with each other, they would retreat as long as they met monks, let alone today they met Buddha."King Liuli led his troops back to his country.

In this way, whenever King Liuli was about to lead his troops to attack Kapilava's Kingdom, he would definitely encounter the Buddha sitting under the dead tree on the way, so King Liuli had to order the troops to return.However, when the fourth time sent troops, the Buddha knew that the consequences of the common karma of the Sakyamuni clan were inevitable, so he no longer stopped them.He expressed deep regret and mercy for the people of Kapilava's Kingdom because they did not know how to repent and enlightened, and they were deeply moved by the disaster today.

When Master Maudgalyayana heard that King Liuli gathered his troops to attack Kapilava and pity those who were about to suffer, he reported to the Buddha: "Now King Liuli is going to attack Kapilava and I hope to rescue the people in Kapilava and use four conveniences: one is to place the people in the void, the second is to place them in the sea, the third is to move them between two iron-encircled mountains, and the fourth is to place them in other great powers, so that King Liuli does not know where they go.”

The Buddha told Venerable Maudgalyayana: "Although you have supernatural powers to accommodate the people of Kapilava, there are seven things that cannot be escaped, namely birth, old age, illness, death, sin, blessing and cause and condition. Therefore, even if you want to use supernatural powers to save the suffering of Kapilava, they still cannot escape the sins planted in the past.”

After hearing the Buddha's teachings, Venerable Maudgalyayana still couldn't bear to the persecution of the people of Kapilava's Kingdom, so he used his supernatural powers to put some elites into the bowl and lifted them into the void, hoping to help them escape this difficulty.Later, King Liuli attacked the Kingdom of Kapila and killed 300 million people.

After the war, Venerable Maudgalyayana went to the temple and told the Buddha: "When King Liuli attacked the Kingdom of Kapilava, his disciples took the power of the Buddha and placed the elites of Kapilava in the void to save them."The Buddha asked Venerable Maudgalyayana: "Have you ever seen the people in the bowl?"The Venerable Maudgalyayana replied: "Not yet."So the Buddha said, "You go and see them first!"”

Venerable Maudgalyayana took off the bowl with his supernatural powers. Seeing that all the people inside were dead, he told the Buddha with sorrow: "There are almost all the people in the bowl. Although I want to use supernatural powers to save them, I still cannot avoid their previous sins."The Buddha mercifully told Venerable Maudgalyayana: "A long time ago, there was a village with a large pond in the village with all kinds of fish.One day, the villagers decided to catch all the fish in the pond, so the whole village, regardless of gender, age, gathered at the edge of the pond to catch them.There was a child who was kind by nature and did not eat meat. When he saw the lively fish, he mischievously knocked on the largest fish head with a stick three times.The big fish at that time was the current King Liuli. The army he led was the fish school at that time. The villagers who caught the fish were the current Shakyamuni. The naughty child was the Buddha's previous life. Although he had not eaten fish, he also had a headache for three days due to the consequences of knocking on the fish head."After talking about this past life, the Buddha told the public: "Even if the seven things are born, old age, sickness, death, sin, blessing and cause and condition, even the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, the invisible clones cannot escape."And he said a verse: "Not empty or in the sea, nor in the hidden mountains and rocks, nothing can be found here to avoid any evil disasters.If sentient beings have troubles, they will not avoid old age and death. Only those who are kind and wise will not be evil.”

After the Buddha finished speaking this verse, countless listeners on the seat were deeply saddened by hearing the impermanence Dharma taught by the Buddha. They all focused on the Buddha's teachings and soon attained the fruit of Sotapanna.
