Master Weiyin: Lecture notes on the collection of "The Sixth Patriarch's Platform Sutra" by Mr. Weiyin (2)

More articles 2020-09-11

The master told the crowd: "Good teacher, Bodhi's own nature is originally pure, but with this mind, one can become a Buddha." Master Huineng first called the public a "good teacher".The Lotus Chinese Verses says: "Knowing is known as knowledge and understanding, and it is the way for people to benefit me, and it is called a good teacher."The Nirvana Sutra says: "It is called a good teacher who can teach life, stay away from the ten evils, and practice the ten virtues."It is a person who can teach sentient beings to stay away from evil deeds and practice good deeds, and is called a good teacher. It refers to friends who are good at guiding each other in righteousness and become friends of morality, not people who are broad-minded and knowledgeable. There are three good teachers: 1. Protect good teachers from outside, so that I can stay away from fear and be able to practice the Tao with peace of mind.2. The good teachers who work with me and learn from each other are the same.3. Teach good teachers, preach the holy teachings and precepts to me, and prevent evil and seek good. Here is the second meaning.Although the master taught the Buddha's heart seal, he surpassed all people and taught good teachers to be a human and a god.The master humbly and respectfully treats all people as good teachers, set an example for future generations, and calls them good teachers who work with them.In other words, those who can be determined to stay away from evil and to good, and can also make people free from evil and to good can be called good."The Bodhi nature is originally pure."Bodhi is a Sanskrit word, translated as awakening. Awareness means enlightenment. It refers to the wisdom that can realize the Dharma nature, which is the unobstructed wisdom of the true wisdom of the true wisdom of the formless wisdom, which is called Bodhi name all Buddha paths. The enlightenment is the confusion, and the mind to become a Buddha is initiated to counter-ignorance and enlightenment.Because we all have no idea of ignorance and unawareness since time immemorial, and are bound by all afflictions, and are confused about the spirituality of conscience. Therefore, the Sixth Patriarch cannot be aware of the mind of becoming a Buddha, and the suffering of the Sixth Patriarch. The true cause of self-awareness is the enlightenment of cultivation and verification. It is the consciousness principle that Buddha and sentient beings share. The enlightenment path of the wisdom and virtues of the Tathagata that they originally possess, to realize the wonderful nature of their own mind. They have been pure and formless since then, and the wonderful nature is complete and clear.Without all names and appearances, there are no sentient beings in the world, but they are ignorant of the eyes and falsely see that all dharmas are empty and indiscriminate. If you understand the flower place and the body is empty, you can directly see the original consciousness of the Bodhi self-nature.The empty flowers that cannot be obtained from all dharmas are not the achievement of practicing according to the law.In other words, both ordinary and saints are the same. The sutra says: "All sentient beings are originally Buddhas. The true Buddha nature of all sentient beings is the same as the Buddhas in the ten directions."But there are differences in ordinary people who have saints, that is, they are just different forms and the difference in the realm of confusion and enlightenment. The obsession of sentient beings is like an undeveloped jewel, covered by ignorance and dirt, and cannot reveal its endless brilliance and purity. If sentient beings realize it, they are like jewels covered with ignorance and dust. Once washed and developed, they will show their bright brilliance. Therefore, the wonderful nature of Bodhi is the state of enlightenment that guides human spiritual morality toward the other shore. Therefore, the nature of all phenomena and the nature of all minds are called the nature of self-nature.However, "original" refers to a very long journey since time immemorial.Origin has no desires, no going to go, it is called Origin."Pure" means that the Buddha nature is not contaminated with a grain of dust, free from all evil deeds and mistakes, and eliminates the defilement of afflictions and defilements, which is called purity. This is the purity and purity of being free from impurities and being free from impurities. If we practice to achieve the tranquility of the three karmas of body, speech and mind, and our mind are the same, and we will achieve one piece, and we will be free from all defilements and troubles, our mind is the purity of the mind and action.A thought of true mind appears, transcending the pure Dharma body that treats good and evil. This is the pure nature of pure liberation.“But use this mind to become a Buddha."If you use the pure mind with the wonderful use of the everlasting sand, you can directly understand the true nature of all dharmas and the eternal life. The unconscious human nature is mixed with no sense of obsession, just like the sky covered with dark clouds, covering the sun's light.Human nature is covered by ignorance and troubles, and the back is awakened and combined with dust, and the true mind is lost.Once you return to the light and realize the Bodhicitta nature of the original enlightenment, it is not a false pursuit of external conditions, but an inner reflection, a return to the self-nature, and open up the bright Buddha's mind. From this, just use this mind to realize that one's own nature is a Buddha without any convenience, the state of mind will naturally be bright, pure and solemn, the haze of ignorance will be completely dispelled, the wisdom of one's own nature will be in the sky, illuminating the heart, shining the wishes, and all the thoughts will be bright and free.In this way, you can truly and accurately understand the perfection of the cause and the perfection of the fruit, and realize the truth and body, and become a Buddha. The so-called Buddha is translated as enlightened. There are three meanings of awareness: 1. Self-awareness.You are omniscient and enlightened to transcend the three realms of ordinary emotions and insights.2. Aware of him.First realize yourself and then awaken others, so as to practice the Bodhisattva's practice, transcend the Two Vehicles, so that all sentient beings can attain great enlightenment and enter the view of the Buddha.3. Complete enlightenment and action, benefit both oneself and others, and complete merit. To transcend the Bodhisattva and to perfect the ultimate Buddhahood. Therefore, the Bodhi self-nature mentioned by the Sixth Patriarch is originally pure and untainted. The master's words are brief and the meaning is profound. If you make good use of this mind, be united with the Buddha, you will immediately realize it and become a Buddha. The Book of the Awakening of Faith says: "The true heart of sentient beings is equal to the body of all Buddhas. The true heart of sentient beings is the body of all Buddhas, and there is no difference."But because all sentient beings cannot be free from birth and death from the beginning of time are all burdened by this mind.Only when all Buddhas can understand this mind, they will see their own nature, and seeing their own nature is a Bodhisattva.Originally from nature, pure nirvana. The Avatamsaka Sutra also says: "If a person wants to know all Buddhas in the three ages, he should observe them in this way and create the Tathagata in his mind."It is said: "You should know that every thought will always lead to Buddha enlightenment. Why?If all Buddhas do not leave this mind, they will achieve enlightenment."The Essence of the Dharma of Transmission of the Heart" says: "Only this mind is the Buddha. There is no difference between Buddha and sentient beings. However, sentient beings seek outside the face, and the result is that the Buddha seeks the Buddha, and they will keep their minds in mind. They will never be able to obtain them. They do not know how to stop thinking and forget their worries, and the Buddha will appear before them."It can be seen that this mind is Buddha, and Buddha is sentient beings. When you are sentient beings, this mind will never be destroyed; When you are all Buddhas, you will not add this mind, and even the six paramitas and ten thousand practices of rivers and sands will be fully possessed. It will not be necessary to add it if you practice it. It will give you when you encounter a condition, and it will be silent when you stop.If you do not believe that this is a Buddha, but want to practice with attachments to seek function, it is all delusions and delusions that are contrary to the Tao.This mind is a Buddha, and there is no other Buddha, nor any other mind. This mind is clear and pure, just like the void, without any appearance, and when you take your thoughts, you will be contrary to the body of Dharma, and you will be attached to appearance.Since time immemorial, the Buddha without attachment to the form has practiced the six perfections and ten thousand practices to become a Buddha, which is the order. There is no Buddha in the beginning of time, but there is no less Dharma to be obtained by realizing one mind. This is the true Buddha. To realize the ultimate truth of all dharmas, sit in the Bodhi temple, and achieve Buddhahood. As the Lotus Sutra says, “This is the Dharma that dwells in the Dharma position, the worldly form is permanent, and the confidant in the Dharma field, and the teacher can speak conveniently."The above can be seen that the Sixth Patriarch's method of enlightenment has been the same as Buddha, Buddha and Taoism, and the same is true for ancestors. Here we further analyze that the wonderful nature of Bodhi is not contaminated, and although it is never contaminated, it can produce wonderful merits for all people. The so-called flow of all things from this Dharma Realm, and all things return to this Dharma Realm, silent and always shine, and unchanging and following the circumstances. It is always silent, and remains unchanged with the circumstances, and is bright and clean and flawless. It does not change into a body, and is used for birth.Brightness is the appearance, and body is the only one mind.If you can realize Bodhi and have pure nature, but use this pure mind and perfect and unobstructed, you can directly become the fruit of Buddhahood. As the master of the Song and Ming sect said: "How great is the mind, and the resources begin to change. And purity is as constant as it is, the ordinary is holy, the quiet is obvious, there is nothing, and you cannot satisfy it.The holy words are clear, and all words are ignorant.Wei is change, and bright is replenishment. Although change is different, the wonderful mind is one.If you understand it, you will know that it is originally pure, so why is there any defilement?"If you can observe directly, as the "Lingyun Sutra" says: "A sudden stop of a crazy mind, and stopping is Bodhi. If the inversion does not arise, it will be easy to see. The sudden enlightenment is already unclear, and you just need to study it yourself. What is mentioned above, including the physical and functional aspects of this sutra, is it the essence of the Dharma that shows the entire sutra. The Bodhi nature is originally pure and repeatedly discussed, which shows that the reason why Bodhi is called the Way of Enlightenment is nothing more than that the enlightenment and self-cultivation is originally pure and becomes Bodhi.Bodhi is the self-nature, and pure self-nature is Bodhi.Bodhi is the mind body of the self-nature, and it is also the body of the self-nature pure mind of this sutra. However, if you use this mind to become a Buddha directly, you will realize the self-nature of Bodhi.Originally, it is pure without any convenience, and the mind is open, but with the wonderful use of this pure mind, it can be directly regarded as a seed of Buddhahood. As the Sixth Patriarch said, “There is no tree in Bodhi."Bodhi means one's own mind and consciousness, how can one say there is a tree but no tree?"A bright mirror is not a platform", which means that the heart is originally invisible, so how can it have a form?"There is nothing originally", since there is no appearance, where does things come from?"Where is dust coming from?" The nature of one's own nature is originally pure and pure. This verse fully shows the Bodhi nature and is originally pure. Therefore, the Fifth Patriarch believed that the problem was familiar and secretly introduced the Dharma.I also heard the Diamond Sutra that "the mind should be born without dwelling on anything", and fully realize the self-nature, which is originally pure, and can be passed on to the Buddha's heart seal. Therefore, it is said: "Just use this mind to become a Buddha directly" is the purpose of this sutra. However, how should we use this mind? But stopping the false attachments will lead to the real nature. Therefore, one should have no dwelling on one's mind, which is that the mind is pure and has infinite wonderful uses. When the Sixth Patriarch realized, “Who did you expect that your own nature is originally pure? How could one think that one's nature is inherently complete, "the self-satisfied heart seal is like this, and it is taught to others. It has been passed down from generation to generation, and evolved into the five sects, with branches and leaves flourishing. In this way, it is the wonderful use of this sutra. To summarize the body and function of the whole sutra, and to summarize the general outline of the whole sutra, those who are destined to experience the taste carefully.Never interpret the meaning in writing. You must understand it in your mind and nature. The wonderful uses are endless, which is the real benefit of your own. When practicing Buddhism, you must first understand that "Bodhi and self-nature" are the original wisdom and awareness that everyone has, and are originally pure.Because sentient beings are unaware of the false realm and are contaminated with dust and dirt, they become blinded by the nature of consciousness and are deceptive and discriminatory, and do not see the true nature of their own nature, and cannot attain the wisdom and virtue of the Tathagata. From this we can see that the difference between sentient beings and Buddhas is only one mind for us.If the mind is against the dust and becomes a sentient being, it becomes a sentient being; if the mind is against the dust and becomes a Buddha, it becomes a Buddha. Therefore, it is said: "All dharmas are not separated from their own nature, and the three realms are created only by their own mind."The Sixth Patriarch roared like a lion at the beginning, "The Bodhi nature is originally pure. But with this mind, the four sentences of becoming a Buddha are straightened. This is not only the key to the Sixth Patriarch's sudden enlightenment of the Dharma, but also the entire "Platform Sutra" and the seal of the mind of becoming a Buddha and becoming a ancestor. If we ignore the words of these four verses when we practice Zen and realize the truth, we do not recognize the true face of this sutra, only because we are in this sutra. So these four sentences are a guide to enlightening the mind and seeing the nature. If you wait for candidates, don’t mistakenly identify Panxing. Good teacher!Let’s listen to Huineng’s actions and get the intention of the Dharma.Huineng's stern father was originally a member of Fanyang, and he descended from the left to Lingnan, becoming a commoner in Xinzhou. He was born in a miserable family and his father died early. His mother was left alone. He lived in the South Road, and was struggling and poor, so he sold firewood in the market. Doing all good deeds and true knowledge and correct views is called a good teacher. To understand the distinction between consciousness, to hear and hear, to see the form as consciousness, to take goodness as the basis. Please listen to me, Huineng (Call yourself )。Huineng: When Huineng was born, a strange monk came to his home and said, "Birth of a baby at night can be called Huineng.""But Huineng's father asked about his meaning, and the monk said, "Those who benefit will benefit all living beings, and those who can do Buddhist rituals.""After speaking, he left, he floated away. This is the origin of the name of the Sixth Patriarch."Get the meaning of Dharma" means that you will also state the experience and experience of the sudden enlightenment of the wonderful Dharma, and encourage future generations to learn. My father's original hometown was in Fanyang, which is now in Dingxing County, Zhili. The county was established in the Tang Dynasty and belonged to Hebei Province.A strict father means that a father is strict with his mother and a kind mother, and respectfully call him strict with you.The surname is Lu and his name is Xingjiang. But he was an official demoted by the dynasty and exiled to Guangdong in Lingnan. Lingnan was a Taoist name set during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. It was located south of the Five Ridges, including the current Guangdong-Guangdong and Annan. Now it is known as Lingnan in central Guangdong. It is the place of Xinxing County now.He became an ordinary person and was called the New South Wales people. From being demoted from his parents to being exiled to ordinary civilians, it is inevitable that the world will be in a dim mood.In the misfortune of my life, my father died early again, and I left behind my old mother and the lonely me, so I had to move to the South China Sea.Nanhai is the name of the county. Panyu, the oldest county in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, was the first county in Guangzhou, and is now moved to Foshan Town.Orphanage means that a child who loses his father in his young age is an orphanage, which means that he has experienced all the pains of the world, hardships, hardships and poverty.Due to the backward and poor social environment at that time, there was naturally insufficient food and clothing, so I had no choice but to go to the market to sell firewood to make a living. Sometimes a customer bought firewood and ordered it to be delivered to the inn.The guest took it away, Huineng got the money, but went out and saw a guest reciting scriptures.Huineng’s heart becomes enlightened as soon as he hears the scriptures. Although poverty depends on selling firewood to live, it leads to the general process of becoming a relationship with Buddha. It is no different to say that poverty and humbleness are not without blessings, and learning Buddhism requires fate. The achievements of anything in the world are by no means obtained without any evidence. It was when a customer bought firewood at that time, but selling firewood was a low-key business. Businesses must have the care of customers and asked me to send the firewood to the inn. After the customer received the firewood, I got the money. When I was about to leave the door, I saw a guest reading Buddhist scriptures. When I heard the sutras recited by the guest. -That is, the supreme and subtle Dharma sound, Huineng felt happy in his heart, and suddenly wiped out the haze. His whole state of mind was bright and wisdom, and he suddenly realized. So I asked the guest what scriptures to recite? The guest said, "The Diamond Sutra".Re-question: "Where do you come from? Hold this classic?"Ke said: "I came from Dongchan Temple in Huangmei County, Qizhou.”Yu Shihuineng immediately asked the guest what sutra were you reciting? The guest replied, “The Diamond Sutra.”"The Diamond Sutra is the 577th volume of the Great Prajna Sutra translated by Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty. It is known as the "The Prajna Paramita Sutra that can eliminate the Diamond Sutra". However, this "Diamond Sutra" taught by the Five Patriarchs is a single-hand version translated by Master Kumarajiva during the Yao Qin period and is the most widely circulated. Therefore, the Diamond Sutra is one of the most enlightening and most precious classics among the Mahayana sutras.Among the items we know, gold is the most powerful, so the word Vajra has this meaning, symbolizing truth and value.Taking the sutras without form as reality, without dwelling as the body, and wonderful uses as the use, so that scholars can understand the truth and see the nature. Most of those who read and recite this sutra praise the endless merits and benefits.Generally speaking, if a person with the highest roots in the past can realize it by listening to this sutra. On the other hand, if you don’t have Su Hui, no matter how much you read, you may not be able to understand the mystery. Therefore, Huineng asked the guests again, where did you come from and have to recite this rare and precious classic? The guest told: "I came from Dongchan Temple in Huangmei County, Qizhou."Qizhou is located in the east of Huangzhou Prefecture. Huangmei County is a county within the scope of Qizhou. Dongchan Temple is located in Huangmei County, located in Dongshan, more than 20 miles southwest of Huangmei County, Hubei Province. It is the place where the fifth ancestor Hongren passed on his robe and bowl to promote the sixth ancestor Huineng, and Dongchan Temple is also called Lianhua Temple. The temple was mastered by the fifth ancestor, Master Ren, and there were more than a thousand disciples.I went to the middle of the scriptures and listened to this sutra. The Fifth Patriarch often advised monks and lay people, but he could only realize his nature by pursuing the Diamond Sutra and become a Buddha directly. The Fifth Patriarch is the fifth generation of the Zen Buddhism in China, a native of Huangmei County, Qizhou, Hubei. (One talk about people from Jiujiang, Jiangxi ),His common surname is Zhou, and his Dharma name is Hongren. At the age of 13, he paid homage to the fourth ancestor Daoxin. He followed him for 30 years and obtained the Dharma. He was the master of Dongchan Temple in Dongshan and preached the Dharma at the Sixth ancestor Huineng. He passed away at the age of 74 and was posthumously named Zen Master Daman. Therefore, the guest told Huineng in a calm tone that the temple was the temple where Master Hongren presided over the education. There were more than a thousand disciples who followed the master and he studied. I was the one who went to the temple to worship, so I often went to the temple to worship and listened to Master Hongren teaching this sutra.Master Hongren often advises monks and lay people that as long as you recite the Diamond Sutra at all times, it is the truth that is indestructible to the Diamond Sutra, you can make the wonderful enlightenment and clear nature appear, see your true Dharma nature, and directly achieve the supreme Buddhahood from the natural enlightenment. This shows how important this sutra is. Huineng heard that he had a chance in the past, so he got a guest to take ten taels of silver and Huineng, and ordered his mother to fill her clothes and food, so he went to Huangmei to attend the fifth ancestor.Huineng has settled his mother, even if he refuses. After more than 30 days, he arrived in Huangmei to worship the ancestors of the Five Dynasties. When Huineng heard this, he realized that the Diamond Sutra was so noble, as if he had realized that he had formed a good relationship with this guest since his previous life.Sure enough, thanks to the generous donation of this guest, he took out as much as ten taels of silver and handed it to Huineng to teach his mother to make up for her food and clothing and family settlement. Because he felt that Huineng was a talented and profound person, it was a pity not to learn Buddhism. After asking him to say goodbye to his mother, he immediately went to Huangmei Donglin Zen Temple to worship the Five Patriarchs as his teacher.Since Huineng has good roots and a profound and extraordinary Buddha relationship, how can there be no reason to be unhappy? With the guidance of the kind guest, he immediately went home and handed the silver to his mother, settled his mother's life, and after getting her mother's consent, he said goodbye to her mother. This shows that Buddhism emphasizes ethics and cannot forget filial piety even when becoming a monk. Being a monk and studying Taoism after being consented by his parents is a righteous and open, reasonable behavior.Because he was eager to seek Dharma and become a disciple, he rushed all the way through the sky and the moon. In less than 30 days, he arrived at Dongchan Temple in Huangmei County. He immediately went in and prayed to the Fifth Patriarch and took her compassionately. Therefore, the Sixth Patriarch often shows that he is illiterate, but he must not have read much, but he can "just hear the scriptures, his mind will be enlightened", and his wisdom is beyond the reach of ordinary people.Even so, what did he realize?Let’s look at what the Sixth Patriarch said when he first arrived in Dongshan: “Although people have north and south, the Buddha nature has no north and south."If you do not leave your own nature, you will be a field of blessing", you can infer that he has realized the essence of self-nature that everyone has, that is, Buddha nature. He realized that he was absent from this and subdued his mind, but he was not separated from his own nature.
