Thanks to the Buddha for his compassion and blessing, so that this Buddhist lecture can successfully enter the third day.It is entirely the Buddha's compassion and merits of the Dharma that so many people listen to the Dharma;It can also be said to be a manifestation of the piety and moral cultivation of your faith.Who says that the world is in decline and people’s hearts are not as good as ever?Thousands of people come to bear the enlightenment of Buddhism, follow the guidance of Buddhist truth and the norms of doctrines. This is truly the glory of our human nature and the glory of society.We can see the achievements of our psychological construction from the solemn and pious aspects of your hearing on Buddhism.
What we are going to talk about today is: from the origin of the world to the remnant of the world.
Before I talk about this question, I will explain the relationship between the world and us:
Children rely on their parents to be born, the elderly rely on crutches to walk, and humans live on the world.There is no world, where do we live?Buddhism says that there are two types of worlds: one is the sentient beings, the other is the material world. The sentient beings are the right reward, and the material world is the dependent reward.The dependent retribution is the world where we rely on.
There are many kinds of people, and there are many kinds of life;The so-called Buddha has a world of Buddha, a world of people, an animal has a world of animals, and even little snails and ants have their own worlds.
In addition to occupying this world, human beings also have to conquer other worlds.Scientists are looking for what kind of world there is outside this world in space.In fact, humans have no real understanding of the world they live in so far.For example: Snowmen often appear in the Himalayas. What does snowmen look like?Some people say: I only see the footprints of the snowman, but I don’t know what it looks like.It can be seen that humans do not fully understand the world they live in.
The little snail lives in the shell, and the shell is its world.Occasionally, it will stick its head out to see the outside world, but the world it comes into contact with is limited after all.In the endless Dharma Realm of the void, looking at our human world is like a snail;The earth is just our shell.
No matter whether our world is big or small, we live in this world and this world is very close to us.We not only hope that the real life will be colorful, but also that dreams will be beautiful.
「There are clearly six dusts in the dream, but after realizing it, there is no big thousand." The dream changes a lot. All kinds of things happen every day in a dreamlike world, and we cannot stay out of it.The Buddhist scriptures say: There are countless worlds in the void, and the world is destroyed every day, and the world is born.For example, scientists now say that the world may collide, which is to prove that the world will be destroyed.Will our world be destroyed?When will it be destroyed?Even typhoons, floods, earthquakes, etc., can we not care about the problems that occur in the world?Neo-Confucianist Lu Xiangshan said it very well: "The affairs of the universe are our own affairs;Our own affairs are the affairs of the universe.”
Since we care about our universe, various theories have given the world many different names, such as heaven and earth, universe, world, nature, yin and yang, void, universe, qi, heart, etc.No matter how many names the world has, the world has a lot to do with our body and mind, which is easy for us to understand;When we live in this world, we will naturally feel that the world is big and people are small;If we feel that the world lives in our hearts, we will feel that we are very big and the world is very small.
Mr. Wang Yangming said: "The universe is my heart, and my heart is the universe."The Buddhist scriptures say: "There is no inch of land outside the place where the enlightened one lives."There is no law outside the mind."The three realms are only the mind, and all dharmas are only the consciousness". The world is just a cloud in our heart.
If you are a saint, after reaching enlightenment, the universe will naturally grow in your heart, and there is no other world except the world in your heart.The world outside the heart is the stubborn world of scientists, a material world;If Buddhism keeps the world in mind, the world will have life, and the universe is the world of many activities.Goode said: "The sound of the stream is full of long tongues, and the color of the mountain is nothing more than a pure body."He said again: "One color and one fragrance are nothing more than the wonderful way."A flower and a world, a leaf and a Tathagata, every sentient being can reveal a different world based on the depth of his own enlightenment.
A famous Buddhist story: "Sheng Gong preached, the stubborn stone nodded." Even something ruthless like a stone will nod. It can be seen that everything in this world is alive and lifelike with the enlightenment of the saint.People often ask: "Can mountains, rivers, earth, trees, flowers and plants become Buddhas?"In fact, as long as you can realize that this mind is Buddha, the mountains, rivers, earth, trees, flowers and plants will become Buddhas with us.
Now that we know the world and our relationship, we must have a deeper understanding of it.Today, what we are talking about is from the origin of the world to the return of the world, which can also be said to be the Buddhist view of the universe.I will explain to you in four points:
one. The First World and the Last World
How did the world come into being?The "Sutra of the Awakening" records:
First of all, due to the wind blowing from the karma of sentient beings, a disk-shaped atmosphere formed in the void. This atmosphere is 1.6 million yojanas thick (about 128 million miles), with countless circumferences and extremely strong. Even the strong men cannot defeat and destroy them with magical weapons. This is the wind wheel.
Then, in the center of the atmosphere, it is gathered by the wind and gradually becomes clouds, condenses into rain, and descends above the air layer, forming a water layer with a thickness of 800,000 yojanas (about 64 million miles) and a diameter of 123,450 yojanas (about 246,900 miles). Due to karma, this water does not overflow, and there is wind as a wall around it to maintain the water layer, which is the water wheel.
The surface of the water wheel is gradually formed by the karma of sentient beings, and two-sevenths of them are golden layers and five-sevenths are water layers, which is the gold wheel.
The golden layer is the earth, with seven mountains on the ground and one mountain in the middle, which is Mount Sumeru.Surrounded by Mount Sumeru are four continents including Vitiha (East Sheng Shenzhou), Kuro (Northern Kuro), Jambudvipa (Southern Jambudvipa), Qudoni (Si Niuhezhou), and among them, South Jambudvipa is the world where we live.The nine mountains on the ground, the eight seas surrounding the nine mountains, and the four continents, form a world of Sumeru Mountain. Buddhism calls it the Small Thousand World, which is generally called the natural world.To combine a thousand small worlds into one middle thousand worlds, to combine a thousand middle thousand worlds into one big thousand worlds, to combine a thousand middle thousand worlds, and to combine a thousand small worlds, the Mid Thousand Worlds, are three thousand big worlds, also known as the world of a Buddha. There are many three thousand big worlds in the void.
According to modern human research, a Mount Sumeru is equal to a solar system.The Milky Way that scientists talk about, a Milky Way is said to have 100 billion suns;Above the Milky Way is a nebula cluster, which has a million trillion galaxies;From this we can see how many worlds there are in the void.Therefore, Buddhism talks about how many things there are in the world, and it all means infinite and boundless;When it comes to how many sentient beings are, they are endless and countless, and they cannot be said or said.
Of course, with our simple knowledge, we cannot understand the vast and boundless world, and even with the fastest light, we cannot circumnavigate the universe.In fact, we should not explore the world outside our hearts, but pursue it inside our hearts, take the universe into our hearts, and understand everything in the universe.Because the vastness of the Dharma Realm is actually only in the present thought.
Someone saw that the monks were in seclusion, and the house was only a few square meters in size, and he couldn't help but feel sympathy and said, "Master!You are so pitiful!Being locked in such a small place must be very distressing!"In fact, we don't have to sympathize with him or pity him. Although the door is very small, the world in our hearts is endless and wide. Everything in the universe is in my heart. As long as we practice diligently, we will be filled with joy in the Dharma. Why bother?
But this world of enlightenment in the mind is not in the realm of beings owned by everyone. The world where everyone depends on is still a world created by karma.
From the karma of the mind that is confused, wind wheels, water wheels, and gold wheels are formed. This is the original world. Since the initial world has been formed, what will happen to this world in the end?When a person lives to the age of eighty or one hundred, he must go through the cycle of birth, old age, illness and death;The same is true for the world, because the world also has stages of formation, existence, destruction and emptiness.It takes about 320 million years for the world to go from formation to residence, to destruction, to emptiness, to emptiness to achievement. The universe is born and destroyed repeatedly in the process of formation, existence, destruction and emptiness, and each cycle takes about 1.28 billion years.
Chinese people are often proud of their culture and history for 5,000 years. In fact, 5,000 years is a very short time in 1.28 billion years.Historians have discovered the Beijingers and Javanese people, and calculated that their age was about 300,000, 500,000, or even one million years, and this million years is also a very limited time in 1.28 billion years.
According to the Buddhist scriptures, we are now in the kalpa, and there are differences between the kalpa of reduction and the kalpa of increase in the kalpa.The so-called reduction of disaster means that the lifespan of humans goes from 84,000 years, and every 100 years is reduced to 10 years, which takes about 8 million years.Increased catastrophe means that the life span of human beings will increase from ten years, one year after one hundred years, and continue to increase to eighty-four thousand years, which also takes about eight million years.One increase and one decrease, collectively called one middle kalpa, which is 1,6 million years.There are twenty disasters like this, each of which is 320 million years.Whenever the disaster is reduced, three small disasters such as weapons, epidemics, and famine occur.
Some people study China's history, and in the past five thousand years, there have been only nine years without any disaster.Everyone thinks about our life today, peace and happiness, and it is so happy.
After 320 million years of dwelling, it will be a bad kalpa. When the karma of destruction is over, seven suns appear due to the karma of sentient beings, and it will burn into disasters. After seven fires, the world below the first heaven will be burned. This is called a fire kalpa, which will take about 1.28 billion years.Among them, between 34 million years, sentient beings first deteriorated;Then, within 16 million years, nature will be destroyed again.
After the fire disaster (that is, seven fires), flood disasters occur, destroying the second meditation heaven among the four meditation heavens. This is called the flood disaster, which takes about 128 million years.After fifty-six fires and seven floods, wind disasters will occur, and the three meditations will be destroyed. This is called the wind disaster, which will take sixty-four major disasters, one hundred and twenty-four million years.Fire disasters, flood disasters and wind disasters are collectively called the three major disasters.Fire burns the first meditation, water floods the second meditation, and wind blows the third meditation, which refers to the above meaning.The four meditation heavens are not destroyed by the three major disasters, but within the three realms, there is the non-thinking and non-thinking heaven in the formless realm. After 80,000 great disasters, they still cannot escape the class of formation, existence, destruction and emptiness.
two. The world of this place and the world of another place
The world in this place refers to our world. The Buddhist scriptures call our world the Saha world, and the word Saha world means to be tolerant.There is a very special thing about us humans, which is that we have great patience. Although there are many sufferings in the world, including birth, old age, illness, death, inability to seek, meeting with enemies and hatreds, we can tolerate it, and there is even a saying that "it is better to suffer in the world than to bury it underground."Some people think that heaven is better than the world, but in fact, heaven is still the world in this place. "The three realms are uneasy, like a fire house." Although the people in heaven live longer and have a lot of happiness, there are still three points in the world that are better than heaven and man: first, they have a strong memory, second, they are kind and generous, and third, they are brave and diligent.The memory, practice, and diligence of the world are worse than that of heaven and man.
Therefore, the heavens on earth are all places of complex suffering and happiness. Now, you are more familiar with the situation in this world. Then I will use the heaven as an example to explain to you: above the earth is the four heavenly kings, and the lifespan of the four heavenly kings is 500 years, which is about nine million years old in the human world;Above the Four Heavenly Kings Heaven is Trayastrimsa Heaven, with a lifespan of one thousand years, which is about 18 million years old on earth;The two thousand years of the night sky are about 36 million years old;The four thousand years of Tushita Heaven is equivalent to seven thousand and two million years of life on earth;The eight thousand years of the world's life are about 144 million years of life;He transformed into a free heaven and a thousand years, which was about 288 million years old.The Brahma heavens in the first meditation are half a kalpa, the Brahma heaven is one kalpa, the four meditations are ten thousand kalpas, and the eighty thousand kalpas in the formless realm are neither thought nor non-thinking, nor non-thinking, and eighty thousand great kalpas in the formless realm are about 80,000 times that are formed, abstinence, destruction and emptiness in our world.It sounds so enviable at first glance, and everyone may think: How great would it be if our lives were so long!In fact, there is no need to envy. Ascension to heaven will bring blessings to heaven, but heaven is not the best and most ultimate place, because the blessings of heaven will finally be enjoyed, and then the five declines will appear ( (1)Gretty clothes (2)Flowers on the head (3)Body smelly (4)Sweat under the armpits (5)I am not happy with me), but I still cannot escape the law of impermanence of life and death, and will eventually fall into depravity.If you can free yourself from the realm of life and death in this place and reach the realm of Nirvana in other places, then you will be truly eternal infinite life.
I have talked about the lifespan of heaven and man, and then the height of sentient beings in heaven: Some people say that ancient people were taller than modern people. In the past, there was a so-called "six-foot boy" and children could be six feet tall. Take me as an example. Now people often say that I am very tall, but I am less than six feet tall.Let’s look at the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The book describes Zhang Yide as two feet tall, holding a steel spear in his hand, roaring and appearing.The Memorial Hall of the Founding Fathers is very large and the door is very high. If Zhang Yide came, I wonder if he could walk in with his head raised and his chest out?
The four heavenly kings are half yojanas (about ten miles from the world), which is equivalent to going from the Memorial Hall of the Father of the Nation to Xindian;The Trayastrimsa body is one yojana (twenty miles) long and is almost at Taoyuan;He transformed into a free heaven with sixteen yojanas (320 miles), and was almost from Taipei to Kaohsiung;The ultimate color is 16,000 yojanas (320,000 miles).Scientists used rockets to send astronauts to the moon. The moon is only more than 240,000 miles away from the earth. People with the ultimate color can take down the moon without raising their hands.Don’t think that I’m talking about myths. The universe is infinite and boundless, and there are many things that cannot be imagined by our shallow knowledge.
With so many gods, what are their clothes?The higher the sentient beings in the heavenly realm, the lighter the clothes they wear.The four heavenly kings of the desire realm are twenty miles long and weigh two parts;The Tushita sky is 160 miles long and weighs one and a half zhu (one liang is forty-eight zhu);His free heavenly clothes are six hundred and forty miles long and weigh half a jug;The Brahma Heaven in the Realm of Form does not wear clothes, but there is no difference between wearing clothes. According to his body, there will naturally be bright and wonderful heavenly clothes.These things are mysterious and unpredictable. We won’t talk much about them. In fact, after the continuous progress of science, the days when humans go to space are not far away.There are scientific inventions in other worlds, and even if we don’t go, they will come.In recent years, "UFO" has appeared frequently, and there are records of aliens coming from all over the world. Isn't it a good proof?
In terms of diet, humans need to eat three meals a day, including protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, etc. to nourish their physical body, so the gods and the people don’t have to be so troublesome.In the desire realm, there are sentient beings who eat naturally and cleanly, and eat with smooth clothes and quilts, and feel bathing;In the form realm, sentient beings eat joy and meditation and joy;In the formless realm, sentient beings feed on their minds.
What is their living conditions?The four heavenly kings are married and the body is in love, the same as humans, and the same is true for Trayastrimsa Heaven;The night sky embraces each other and creates desire;Tushita holds hands to form desire;Transformation of Lotto and smile to form desire;He transformed into a free heaven and temporarily looked at it and became desires.
The world in this place is the world of life and death, and the world of suffering, emptiness and impermanence.When Buddhism talks about other worlds, it mostly refers to the wonderful world of eternal happiness, self-purity, and the pure and worry-free world. The most special causes and conditions in these other worlds are the glazed Pure Land of Medicine Buddha in the East and the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha in the West.What is the situation in other worlds?
The Pure Land of Medicine Buddha’s Glaze is a place where the economy does not have to worry about and people’s livelihood is very rich.In that world there are gold, silver and treasures everywhere, and there are magnificent buildings everywhere.People's food, clothing, housing and transportation are very easy to obtain;The public's entertainment equipment is also as good as they want.
The world of Medicine Buddha’s Pure Land can be said to be a place where sentient beings are purified and society are purified.Because there are no women here, men don’t have to be surprised to hear this. It’s so meaningless if there are no women;Women don’t have to be nervous, thinking that without women, what should we women do?You should know that in the Medicine Buddha Pure Land, there is no male or female appearance, no man or woman.Because there is no woman, there will be no restaurant or dance hall. In such a society, women can rest assured that men will not be flirting with flowers or hide their spoils in golden houses, and the problem of family disputes can be solved.
In the world of Liuli, not only are there no men and women, but there are no evil realms, no hell, no animals, and no hungry ghosts. Therefore, Liuli Pure Land has no struggle or troubles, and there are no various evil karmas such as killing, gambling, restaurants, fortune-telling, etc. It can be said that in that society all sentient beings are Bodhisattvas and great good teachers.
The same as the Pure Land of Glazed Liquor is the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. In the Pure Land, in terms of time, there is no cold and heat, the climate will always be cool and refreshing. The so-called breeze blows is more comfortable than air conditioning.In the Pure Land, there will never be any troubles about space problems, there will be no crowding, and there will be no invasion accidents.In the Pure Land, everyone can fly freely because everyone lives in a world of infinite time and space.
In the Pure Land, they will not be troubled by the daily food and clothing problem. They wear clothes and have natural clothes to wear;They eat naturally.Even if they just recite the Buddha's name, the Dharma, and the monks, they will be full. Sometimes they don't necessarily eat with their mouths, but they can eat with their eyes. If they see Amitabha's solemn appearance, they can be full.
In the material life of the Pure Land, there is never a lack and no competition;In interpersonal relationships, all the good people are all in the same place. There is no trouble of right and wrong among people, no sins of resentment between men and women, no economic possession, no disputes of fame and status, neither framed by bad people, nor the horror of evil paths. Everyone does not have to be busy with life or worry about human feelings. Everyone is born of lotus, and everyone lives in the truth of Amitabha Buddha, one teacher and one way, and is a very happy world.
In the Pure Land, we care about each other and love each other. After we eat Zen and joy every day, we each wear clothes to provide all the wonderful flowers to offer to ten trillion Buddhas in other places.They flytourHave fun, no worries, society is so free and so harmonious.
The sutra says: "From then on, there is a world called Pure Bliss."Although the Pure Land of Pure Bliss in other worlds is ten thousand and three thousand great worlds away from our place, there are still people in this place who are dedicated and sincere in seeking rebirth in that land, which shows how profound the influence the other world has on the world.
three. The world of physics and the world of psychology
This world is composed of four elements: earth, water, fire, wind, five aggregates: form, feeling, thought, action, consciousness, and six dusts: form, sound, fragrance, taste, touch, and law. We all live in the physical world of the four elements, five aggregates, and six dusts. Most people do not know how to explore the world in their hearts except for the physical world of the four elements, five aggregates, and six dusts.For example, some young men and women go to Foguang MountaintourWhile talking and laughing loudly, holding the tape recorder in hand, making the sound louder.I often think: Isn’t it enough to make noises in big cities every day by machines, horns, people and cars?Why not let your ears be purified and enjoy the tranquility of the mountain and forest temple?Do you have to use this noise to anesthetize yourself?Can the world of five desires and dust outside give us real happiness?A person who practices closes his eyes, does not look or listen, does not have to wear good clothes or eat good things, but the happiness and satisfaction in his heart cannot be experienced by those who pursue the material world.
It is certainly good if life can move forward positively, because there is an infinitely broad world ahead of people;But if you cannot move forward, it is more important to know how to look back, because the world that looks back is as broad as the world ahead.Usually in the space where we are active, everyone only knows the space to move forward, but not the space to retreat.If you can grasp the two worlds of physics at the same time, and at the same time experience the space ahead and behind, move forward when moving forward, and look back when looking back;When seeking outside, seeking outside, seeking inside; when seeking inside;It’s like a person has two hands, and it’s smooth and free. This is the state of consistency between mind and matter and consistency between front and back.
There is a very famous poem in Buddhism that describes a life of retreating to advance. The verse says:
I planted green rice seedlings all over the field, and lowered my head and saw the sky in the water;Only when the six senses are pure is the way, and regression is actually moving forward.
This poem uses the farmer to bend down to plant rice seedlings, telling us that to know ourselves and observe our nature, we must step back and bow our heads. The world that looks back is broader than the world that moves forward, and the world that bows down is wider than the world that looks up.The farmer planted the seedlings because he could retreat to plant them well.The ancients said, "Retreat as advance", and said, "Everything is better as retreating." How peaceful and comfortable it is to take a step back before fame and fortune!I am patient before I am right and wrong. How leisurely and contented!
Some people who see Buddhism say, "You believe in Buddhism, do not smoke, drink, dance and play cards, and have no fun in life at all. Isn't this too negative?"Can smoking, drinking, playing cards, and dancing be considered a positive life?In fact, Buddhists deeply realize that external glory and wealth are illusory and unreal. Looking back from the sounds and emotions of eating, drinking, having fun and actively engaging in the Taoist practice of internal cultivation and external propagation is not only not negative, but a more positive life, because this is the inevitable way for Buddhists to look down on the world of physics and attach importance to the world of psychology.
The heart is very wonderful. Hell, hungry ghosts, and animals are in our hearts, and heaven, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas are also in our hearts.People often ask, "Where is heaven and hell?"I tell you: Heaven is in the place of heaven, hell is in the place of hell.You said you don't know about this place, let me give you an example for your reference:
Where is hell?When you go to the market, isn’t the market hell?You have entered the kitchen, isn’t the kitchen hell?In the market: Kill!Kill!Braised!Bake it on fire!Isn’t this the sword mountain and sword tree, the skinning hell, the oil pot hell?
Where is heaven?Some people live in high-rise buildings or in quiet suburbs. Isn’t this paradise for the feeling of being happy in life?Thinking of the cold weather, we should go to the nursing home and the orphanage to express our condolences and bring warmth to the lonely and helpless people. Isn’t this kind of compassionate intention a paradise?
Where is heaven and hell?It's in our hearts!Sometimes you are greedy, sometimes you are hated, sometimes you are ignorant, and then you fall into the abyss of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals.It’s like getting up in the morning, the weather is clear, the body and mind are comfortable, as if it’s in heaven.oh!I am so hungry, and the world of hungry ghosts is here;Let’s look at the food on the table, “Hate!"Along with hatred, the world in hell appears;Because it is not satisfactory, blame you for him, it is unreasonable, and the ignorant animal world has emerged.Therefore, heaven and hell have their own place in heaven and hell. If you don’t understand, I will tell you that heaven and hell are in your heart.
I often use factories to describe people's hearts. Good factories produce good finished products;Bad factories always emit black smoke and dischargedirtyWater creates air pollution.The same is true for our hearts. Sometimes we practice compassion, joy and giving, blessings and wisdom, and sometimes we create greed, anger, evil views, jealousy and resentment. What kind of factory has you opened in your heart?What kind of product should be made?Everyone knows it in their minds that they don’t wait for the inspection products of the Inspection Bureau, because you are the director of the Inspection Bureau.
Foguang Mountain is a newly built temple. It has only been fourteen years since its establishment. In recent years, many young people have practiced there;Some people only eat one meal a day;Some people don’t fall down twenty-four hours a day;Many people often go into seclusion and practice.When someone sits in meditation, he sits for ten or eight hours;Some people ban language, and once banned, it will take weeks or months.They do not accept disciples or save money.Get up at 4 o'clock in the morning and have morning class. You have to recite the offering mantra for breakfast and lunch. There are six hours of preaching and class every day.Fake Japan is here to rest, see everywheretourWhen guests and believers visited and worshipped Buddha, they couldn't help but feel happy and went to serve everyone;If you are thirsty, I will pour you tea;If you are hungry, I will bring you food.This is the spirit of young Bodhisattvas. They are neither treated nor paid, but some people, after eating and drinking, say, "They are doing business and have not practiced.""Of course, the life of practicing the Bodhisattva path should be difficult to do, and it is difficult to endure, and you don't care about misunderstandings or even care about malicious slander.The reason why I quote this passage is just to show that there is a Buddha in my heart and everyone is a Buddha;There are ghosts in your heart, and ghosts everywhere.How important it is to create the world in our hearts and improve the quality of our hearts’ production!
It is rare for a person to live in the torrent of the five desires to be unrestrained;If you follow the customs and can avoid being dirty, it is even more valuable.Therefore, staying away from external environments and living in the mountains and forests to practice is not the best;Resting in a downtown city and still being able to avoid being transferred by external environment is the Mahayana path.Therefore, it is said: "The big one is hidden in the city", or "make a temple in a lively place."Why can you have such skills?That is because you understand the false nature of the external world, do not pursue the world of the five desires and six dusts outside the mind, and will not develop attachment to everything in the world, but can live an unattached life and enjoy the integration of the inner world.
Many great masters have had this state since ancient times, such as Tao Yuanming's "Building a hut in the human realm, without the noise of chariots and horses."The lay Buddhist Vimalakirti said, "Even though he is at home, he is not attached to the three realms;It is shown that you have a wife and always practice Brahma."Monkey Ikkyu's "I can be open and unobstructed by betrayal women."If a person can not be affected by life, it is said that "a hundred flowers pass by the jungle, and a leaf will not touch the body."How free and easy and carefree that is that!
I often illustrate the world in my heart by citing Su Dongpo and Zen Master Foyin.
One day, Su Dongpo went to Jinshan Temple to meditate with the Zen master. Su Dongpo felt comfortable in body and mind, so he asked the Zen master, "Zen master!What do you think I'm sitting like?”
「Like a Buddha!"The Zen master replied, and Su Dongpo was very happy to hear it.After a while, Zen Master Foyin continued to ask Su Dongpo:
「Grand Principal!What do you think I'm sitting like?”
Su Dongpo never missed the opportunity to mock the Zen master, and immediately replied, "Like a pile of cow dung!”
Zen Master Foyin was also very happy to hear this.
Su Dongpo saw that the Zen master was similiated as cow dung and could not answer, and he finally gained the upper hand. He was very happy and said to everyone: "I have always lost to Zen Master Foyin in terms of Taoism, and I can win today!"The news reached Su Xiaomei's ears and asked, "Brother!How did you win against Zen Master?"Su Dongpo's eyebrows were dancing and his spirited narration was evident.After hearing Su Dongpo's proud report, Su Xiaomei said seriously: "Brother!If you lose everything, you will lose everything completely, because Zen Master Foyin’s heart is like a Buddha, so he sees you like a Buddha;And your heart is like cow dung, so you see it like a pile of cow dung!”
The world of psychology cannot be disguised, and the purification of psychology requires being away from the mind of victory or defeat and the mind of inversion;The sublimation in the heart must have an equal heart and respectful heart.
People who have the heart to enter the Tao can easily realize that the physical world is changeable and charming and deceptive. Only when we return to the psychological world from the physical world, because the psychological world is the world of constant happiness and self-purity, and the world that can be free from freedom without moving.
Four. The world of birth and death and the world of death
The world of birth and death is the world of birth, existence, change and death that we feel, that is, the world of birth, old age, illness, and death, and the world of formation, existence, destruction and emptiness.
The world of birth and death is a world of "the four elements are empty and the five aggregates are not there".Mountains, rivers, earth, everything is formed by the combination of the "four major" elements.What are the "Four Majors"?That is, the four major species of earth, water, fire and wind.The ground is hard, water is damp, water is warm, and wind is flow.Earth, water, fire and wind are the main factors that make up all objects, so they are called great.For example: a cup is made of soil, which belongs to the ground;The soil needs to seep and water, and then burn it with fire, which means two major factors: water and fire;It is blown into solid form by the wind and becomes a cup, which is strong.
Humans, who are precious as the spirit of all things, are also formed by the combination of the four false combinations.If the claws, teeth, flesh, muscles and bones are large in the ground;Glands, saliva, pus, blood, etc. that are liquid fluid are water-heavy;The body temperature and heat are high in fire, and the breathing is high in wind, so there is a major disorder in the body, which means that all diseases are common;If the four elements are scattered, life will die.
Sentient beings are combined by the four elements and the five aggregates.Since life is a relationship of cause and condition and has no entity to be obtained, the body of sentient beings is just a false existence.If the cause and effect of harmony is exhausted, the relationship of union will be eliminated, and the body of life will immediately perish.Therefore, the Buddha said, "The four elements are empty, and the five aggregates do not exist.”
The world of birth and death is a world of more suffering and less happiness.There are three kinds of suffering: suffering, suffering from destruction, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, and suffering from formlessness, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, suffering from deeds, and suffering from formlessness. This is divided according to degree.If divided from the content, there are the suffering of birth, the suffering of old age, the suffering of illness, the suffering of death, the suffering of separation of love, the suffering of hatred, the suffering of meeting with enemies and hatred, the suffering of not getting what you want, and the suffering of the blazing of the five aggregates.It is a pity that people hate, but there will inevitably be many pains in life;Joy is what people pursue, but the joy of life is so rare and short.
The world of birth and death is an impermanent world. Yesterday, my friend who was still alive and swaying from you, but today I am unfortunately separated from you.The department store, which was still crowded yesterday, was razed to the ground by the fire today.You and I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Isn’t this the reality of impermanence?
There are too many pains in this world that give us great troubles and shake our physical and mental peace.We must study Buddhism and seek a world that is neither born nor destroyed.What is a world that is neither born nor destroyed?This is of profound significance and wonderful. Due to time limitation, I can only briefly introduce it to you.
What is a world that is still destroyed?
The first is the realm of "such":For example: As if it is still, the world if it is still, the world if it is still, the world if it is Tathagata, the world if it is Dharma, and the world if it is true.Confucianism also advocates not being moved by cultivation, so-called "mountain of Tai collapses before the color remains unchanged."If our hearts can remain calm, we will be happy.To be honest, people are really pitiful, and they praise you, "Your clothes are so beautiful!"I was happy for a long time.The clothes are beautiful, what does it have to do with you?You are happy, too.If someone criticizes you, you will get angry, you will not be able to eat or sleep well.Whether you are happy or not is entirely controlled by outsiders, why should you be at the mercy of others?It is because I have not lived in a world like "like".
The second is the world of "enlightenment":Enlightenment: Everything is clear, the world of enlightenment is the world of intelligence, the world of light, the world of liberation, and the world of nature.
The world of enlightenment is "Ah!I understand!""oh!That's right!"With enlightenment is the world of three non-differentiation of "mind Buddha sentient beings";It is a world where "no joy to gain, no sorrow to lose";Enlightenment is a world that is not restrained by love and is not transferred by life and death;Enlightenment is to restore nature, find one's own family, and understand one's own world.
The third is the "pure" world:Pure: Pure and untainted, the pure world is a cool world, the world of the Pure Land, the world of the Dharma Eye, and the world of Lotus.
Our body has thirty-six things that are impure from head to toe.Greed, anger, ignorance, regret, hatred, resentment, and anger will invade us all the time and make us restless.clothingdirtyI need to wash my bodydirtyYou need to wash it even if you are not pure in your heart.Use cool Dharma water to wash away the filth of your mind, solemn yourself with the "purity" of Buddhism, and guide yourself with the "purity" of Buddhism."Purifying one's mind is all Buddhists", the so-called "purifying the mind and purifying the country". Everyone can do this, and the Pure Land will be presented to everyone.
The fourth is the world of "circular":Circle: A harmonious and unobstructed world is everything like the sun and the moon, like the world of void, like the world of cause and effect, like the world of self-nature.
The so-called perfect world is like everyone who came to listen to Buddhism the day before yesterday, and they also came to listen to Buddhism yesterday, and today they still came to listen to Buddhism, with a beginning and an end, and the merits are perfect.
Life should pursue a round world, because a round world is the world that we complete in life.
Buddhism talks about the universe and life, and it all talks about perfection. The principles must be perfect, the matter must be perfect, the principles must be perfect, and everything must be perfect. This is the world of the four Dharma realms advocated by the Huayan Sutra.The so-called four Dharma realms are: the Dharma realm of affairs, which is a world that collectively calls the different phenomena of our day and night;The realm of reason and Dharma is to break the phenomenon of cognition and realize the incredible world of truth that is lost and the thoughts are gone;The Dharma Realm of Unobstructed Affairs is the essence and phenomenon, a world of emptiness and existence without hindrance;The Dharma Realm without hindrance in everything means realizing that time and space are infinite, that the universe has nothing to do with one, that everything is the same body, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, that is, thatI sincerely hope that after attending this Buddhist lecture, you will have a very fulfilling life and be able to experience the world of harmonious councils.
