《Sutra of Miscellaneous Agama Sutra 1051:
Among Buddhist disciples, Bhikkhu Bati's appearance is the most ugly and ugly, and he has always been despised and neglected by all monks.One day, four groups of disciples surrounded the Gion Lecture Hall, preparing to listen to the Buddha's teachings respectfully. When the public saw Bhikkhu Bati enter the lecture hall, they immediately felt contemptuous and whispered: Where did this monk come from? He looks so ugly?
The Buddha immediately realized the thoughts of the monks, and he said calmly: Do you all feel contemptuous when you see the unrestrained Bible Bhati come in?
You cannot have such a mentality! Bhikkhu Bati has eliminated all the knots and defilements, achieved the precepts and majesty that the monk should have, and has achieved wisdom.Therefore, monks! Don’t judge people by their appearance. Only those who have achieved Buddhahood have the ability to measure others.At the same time, the Buddha also asked the monks to interrogate and salute to Bhikkhu Bati.All the monks were surprised and respectfully calmed down.
So the Buddha took this opportunity to educate the monks and said: All the birds gathered and beasts were afraid of the lions.Because the lion has courage, it is called the king of all beasts.Although some people have ugly appearances, they can be liberated if they have wisdom. Otherwise, they are just a huge body but ignorant. What's the use? Therefore, we should make good use of this body, practice diligently, destroy the demon army, eliminate all afflictions, and achieve the state of liberation of nirvana.
Revelation:
Judging people by appearance is the first impression that ordinary people can measure others' high and low esteem, but this very unobjective delusion often makes people lose their foresight.
Lao Tzu, the author of the Chinese "Tao Te Ching", once said: Although a gentleman has great virtue, his appearance seems to be a fool.It means that although a virtuous gentleman has outstanding talents, he can keep a low profile, which makes you look no different from a fool at first glance.At this time, it depends on whether we have a wise eye and can get to know truly capable people.
